Peter Stevens
Peter talked about creativity - where does it come from, and how do you apply it. In many cases, inspiration from others was the starting point. Peter collects inspiration from other photographer, but also other creators - film makers, artists and the like. This theme of being inspired by classical artists was a thread through several of the projects presented. He shared a number of sets of images. Following the light for a portrait session with Phil Punton where it wasn’t always about focusing on the setting, but more on the subject. A set of quite ‘extreme’ street portraits using intentional camera movement and finally a passion for architecture, often stripping back to the absolute minimum.
Steve Gray
Steve shared a wide range of his recent work. Several ‘grassroots’ sports where you get close to the action - grass track (cars and bikes) and harness racing. He also shared images from various pride and goth style events. Steve was also a fan of early mornings in London - taking advantage of the quite spaces in the underground to capture in particular the architecture of the Elizabeth Line
Len Downes
Len spoke about his activities taking photos at live music events. His occasional blagging to get into events had resulted in some specific assignments. He had then been able to build up a relationship with several performers getting unique access and personally signed prints which raised money for charities. Len also shared his frustration with sports photography where he always seemed to be in the right place with the wrong lens, so now focused on the after goal celebrations. Finally some intentional camera movement at a relatives Indian wedding.
Guy Davies
Guy remains one of our most decorated photographers with a wide ranging portfolio, some of which he shared with us. Some excellent travel images, but also something slightly different. Guy isn’t afraid of a bright blue sky and showed several images containing large areas of singular colour. He wasn’t afraid to push the boundaries of convention.
Jose Closs
Jose astounded and flummoxed us in equal measure with her incredible shots, largely taken with a mobile phone. Always trying new things and prepared to see what happened some of the most interesting were from burst shots where darker colours were excluded. Added to this ICM and distortion and the presentation was something the likes of which few of us had ever seen before.
Neil Wittman
Neil works in a very freestyle fashion, mixing, blending and experimenting with subject matter. Bringing elements together with multiple exposures, line drawing and art.
