  • Peter - Chair

    FRPS, AFIAP, DPAGB

I have been interested in photography for many years, but this became more of a passion with the arrival of digital technology. I have always been a keen a landscape photographer, but recently my subject matter has broadened and my approach has become more impressionistic. I really enjoy finding those little corners of beauty that most people pass by.

I am a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, have gained the AFIAP award and the DPAGB from the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain. In 2013 I obtained a 1st Class honours degree in Photography from Westminster University. I have regularly entered my photographs in both national and international exhibitors, but now I focus on just a few national competitions where I have had the occasional success.

I am a past Chairman of the Harpenden Photographic Society, but since moving north to Tynemouth am now the Programme Secretary for Tynemouth PS.

I was delighted to be elected as Chairman of the Gamma Photo Forum in 2025.

  • Alexandra - Chair elect

    MA, FRPS

I picked up a camera as a child to take snapshots, continued this through my teens and early adulthood as I moved around the world. I joined the RPS and gained my licentiate. In 2017, I began a Masters Course in Contemporary photography and graduated with a distinction. In 2021 I became a Fellow of the RPS.

My Masters Project, called Trophies, spoke about the curatorship of animals and how their sentience was ignored. My Fellowship Panel spoke of the ‘Universal Truths’ of pollution, disrespect, greed and cruelty which affect the creatures with whom we share the planet.

More recent projects include ‘Love and the Pollinator’ which explores the Cut Flower market and recently completed book ‘The Private Life of the Fishing Fleet Harbour’ a tangible homage to a changing industry and disappearing way of life. Ongoing projects include – ‘The Good, the bad and the ugly’ – human / animal interactions and ‘The Cabinet of Curiosities’ – a photographic interpretation

If I can make one person change their behaviour or ask questions with my images then I deem them to have been a success.

  • Monty - Secretary

    LRPS

As a teenager, I was playing with cameras and primitive darkroom equipment. As a young professional, I graduated to SLRs and occasionally found myself in blacked-out bathrooms in the early hours of the morning. However, pressure of family, work, and my left-handed brain dominance eventually led me to abandon photography. Then, in my fifties I accidentally stumbled back into it . . . But that’s another story

I have a strong interest in photography and strive to express this burning passion and inspire others. Despite my age, I aim to continue learning and exploring photography while I still have the energy.

I’m a retired district judge and photography judge who enjoys engaging with people and their imagery. If elected I will become President of the United Photography Postfolios (UPP) in September.

I relocated to Alwoodley in Yorkshire from the South East, which I should have done years ago!

  • Len - Members Day organiser

My father was an amateur photographer, with little equipment or money to expand his interest, but he used to have occasional sessions in the temporary darkroom in the bathroom, so I learnt a little about the joys of producing prints. When I was 21, my parents very generously bought me a second-hand Pentax Spotmatic, a vast improvement on the Box Brownies and similar. That inspired the following years, at architecture college and beyond.

My photographic interests are wide, concentrating at times on live music and dance (under the name ‘giglens’), architecture, abstract, nature, sport ... in fact almost anything! Colour and monochrome, PDI and print, individual images and panels, with varying degrees of basic input of Photoshop.

Whilst I do enter competitions, I recognise the impossibility of rating anything which can be regarded as Art - is Rembrandt better than Van Gogh, Brandt better than Bailey? So, qualifications and awards, while good for the ego, are the result of somebody’s personal preferences. Consequently, my ambition is to produce images which I like myself and hope that others might.

  • David - Exhibition organization. Yearbook design and publication. Audio visual organization.

    ARPS

Passionately interested in art and photography since student days, my photographic tastes are both wide and eclectic. As a youth, I was encouraged into studying sciences and have degrees and diplomas in computing, electrical engineering, chemistry and education.

Recent years have seen me move back to art and photography and I lectured in digital graphic design at York College.

I returned to photography as my main interest 20 years ago and I‘ve had several solo exhibitions at York, Manchester, Skipton and joint exhibitions in several northern towns. I gained an ARPS award at this time.

I have several published photographic books including ‘Polaroid Dreams’, 2010; ‘Time - a Photographic Journey, 2013; ‘Photographic Walks in North Yorkshire’, 2020; ‘Light and Time – A Photographic Journal’, 2024; and ‘Lumen – The Fragility of Nature’, 2025.

Current photographic inspiration comes from many sources, but mostly art, cinema, philosophy, songs and poems.

Many portfolios are on show at davidsaultphotography.com

  • Patrick - Past Chair

Photography has been a hobby for over 60 years. I have moved through the most basic of cameras with black and white film and wet processing to more sophisticated DSLRS. I use micro 4/3rds mirrorless cameras to experiment with multiple exposure and intentional camera movement techniques.

I have sought inspiration everywhere from the most distant parts of the world to the most commonplace domestic scene, and from many an inspirational colleague and workshop leader. The Covid restrictions caused me to explore my local allotments and also to play with abstract images in Photoshop, resulting in some quite startling results.

My main ambition is to digitise a large collection of slides to reveal forgotten images and perhaps create a book.

I derive the greatest enjoyment out of being eclectic, experimental and playful in pursuit of this most anarchic of interests.

    ARPS, EFIAP, EPSA

I got serious in 1989 when I joined a camera club. I realised just how ordinary my pictures were! I started to enter club competitions and to listen carefully to the critiques, with the result that my photography gradually improved.  I joined the Royal Photographic Society and also took my first steps into the international exhibition scene.

In 2002 I was awarded the Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society (LRPS). I have over 1300 acceptances in Photographic Society of America and FIAP recognised international exhibitions with 112 awards including 19 medals.

I was awarded the AFIAP distinction in 2009 and EFIAP in 2011. Also in 2011 I was awarded the EPSA distinction of the Photographic Society of America. I was very pleased to achieve the Associateship of the Royal Photographic Society in 2009 with a panel of prints showing details of sandstone rocks.

I like photographing landscapes, especially in low or dramatic light.  I also enjoy city photography, looking for unusual angles on interesting buildings, inside as well as outside.  I have tried photographing people too, but mainly at events such as carnivals, not in the studio.  I particularly get excited by finding apparent landscapes in textures and patterns in rocks and tree bark, and any other small details.  Although most of my work is in colour, I do get a special ‘buzz’ from a good monochrome.

  • Alistair - Web and Social Media

    LRPS, AFIAP, BPE 1, A.APS, T.IAAP

I have had a life long interest in photography and the outdoors, starting my career at Kodak after studying Geography at Southampton University.

These days I still enjoy taking photos and sharing the craft and my experiences with others. I run workshops and am a PAGB judge.

My interests are broad and evolve over time but my core passions are landscape and travel photography. I have completed a number of travel books over the last 10 years from Kilimanjaro to Spain. I still enjoy printing and the physical touch, feel and impression of the physical image.

In the last two years I have become more interested in sports photography being a regular on the touchline for a number of sports. One of my objectives has been to use photography to showcase minority sports and encourage participation. This has resulted in growing expertise for Korfball, Lacrosse, Table Tennis, Drifting, Motocross and Fencing.

I regularly take part in competitions and am an active member in my local camera club.
