Adrian James ARPS
I am a retired academic and we’re lucky enough to live in Holmfirth, to where we moved about 5 years ago. I became interested in photography in the late 1960s, when I was at university, shooting mainly in B&W and doing my own developing and printing. However, when family life took over I was effectively limited to family and holiday snapshots!
Since retiring, however, photography has become my main past-time; I was awarded my LRPS in 2021 and, somewhat to my surprise, I have since been successful in having a number of images included in various international photographic exhibitions. My photography is eclectic, covering several genres - I make images of whatever catches my eye and interest, although I particularly enjoy documentary and street photography, especially where there is a strong human element. Having recently completed a project that led to my being awarded my ARPS, I am currently waiting to discover a new sense of direction - in the meantime, directionless eclecticism rules!

Architecture and record
Our world is full of exciting and wonderful buildings and interiors - where to start?!
Abstract
On a more creative note, abstract images not only challenge the image maker but, importantly, they should also challenge the viewer.
Black and white
Black and white images transform the realities represented in coloured images into graphic interpretations of the subjects in which the interplay of light and shadow allow the viewer to focus on detail rather than colour.
Documentary
Documentary photography comes into its own when there is a sequence of related images that tell a story. However, single images can also convey some of the story of which they are a part.
Flowers
It is stating the obvious to say that flowers are beautiful but the closer you look, the more wonders they reveal, including the life they attract.
