Sharon Sawyer CPAGB AFIAP BPE1*
I’ve had a camera of some sort since the age of about eight. I graduated to an SLR aged 14 and went digital at the turn of the millennium.
Between the ages of 8 and 40 I mostly took mediocre photos when on holiday or out and about. Eventually, I joined a camera club and had my eyes opened to other possibilities. Since then my work has veered more towards art rather than pure photography. I was always very artistic as a child so I am returning to my roots! Lockdown got me taking photos at home and I now have a decent (probably excessive) collection of vases and other tat that I often use in still life images.
I find it hard to just do basic processing on an image and stop there - I usually add at least one layer of texture and some kind of border in Photoshop. I am quite happy spending hours in front of the computer making art!

Still life flowers
Photographing flowers from the garden means I am forced to find out what they are and then have a fighting chance of remembering what each plant is called!
Butterflies
I have an occasional habit of compositing butterflies into images - they’re not usually alive or even real.
Old things
Images of objects owned by previous generations of our family. This is a way of combining photographs of people with items or other memories associated with them; a way of telling their stories.
Emerging projects
My aim is to create more images with a botanical illustration feel and do interesting things with old family photos. I would also like to combine photography with other artistic pursuits, either in Photoshop or by exploring mixed media.
